You can find supplements, workout programs, and conferences that promise to stop aging, defy gravity, and help you live forever. How can you tell the real deal from the really scammy? And, most importantly, does any of it help you have better sex? Now that many people are living longer, having healthy sex as you age is more important than ever. Your sex life doesn’t have to have an expiration date, so long as you take these proper precautions.
Increasing Your Sexual Longevity
Some things, like medical diagnoses or injuries, you can’t prevent. But there is a lot you can do to increase sexual longevity and avoid discomfort and unnecessarily painful sex as you age. And with so many ways to extend your life on the table, extending your sex life is a relevant discussion. Living longer and having to give up sexual pleasure is not enticing to a majority of people.
The good news is that much of sexual aging and atrophy can be reversed, but often, it’s easier to keep your body in good shape than to have to get it into good shape. Part of staying in shape for your sex life includes having sex regularly. Solo pleasure counts, as it keeps your blood flowing to your genitals. Increasing nutrition and fitness in your lifestyle can also boost your chances of having fulfilling sex later in life.
You can increase your longevity after you notice a change, too. Science has given us almost endless options for not only delaying the aging process but also helping us feel more at home in our bodies. You could consider labial injections, stem cell injections, platelet-rich plasma, and other gender-affirming care that claim to help rejuvenate your genitals.
Devices are available as well that can help you maintain your sexual function. Sex toys can help you improve vaginal elasticity, keep a stronger erection without medication, or have an easier time reaching orgasm. These can aid in your arousal and allow you to experience pleasure even if you have grip issues. In reality, these devices should be considered tools rather than toys because of how drastically they can improve your sexual function.
No matter your age, your sex life doesn’t have to suck. But to find out eleven reasons it might anyway, check out my YouTube video.
What Women Can Expect
As women age, many notice loss of libido, reduced vaginal moisture, incontinence, and discomfort during sex. These issues may be due to reduced blood flow to the vaginal region and the diminished production of estrogen that occurs during menopause. Women may even lose some of the clitoral and labial tissue, which can reduce sexual pleasure. This side effect of aging is catered to extensively when it happens to men, and you can find advertisements for solutions to this problem almost anywhere you look. But it’s less discussed when it happens to women. Part of the issue is that many people assume women have low desire anyway, so having less desire isn’t seen as a problem as much as an issue inherent in their biology.
Many of these menopause symptoms are treatable. And the sooner you treat them, the sooner you can get back to experiencing pleasure.
What Men Can Expect
Men struggle with low libido and loss of desire as they age, too. And they have many time-tested options to choose from, including many prescriptions to increase blood flow. Beyond that, penis pumps, injections, and therapy can help them regain healthy sexual activity. Some of these treatments are available online without a doctor’s appointment, but it’s always the best idea to talk with your doc before starting a new treatment of any kind. Penis enlargement procedures are also available, and their effectiveness and safety vary.
No matter your gender, it’s essential to advocate for yourself with your doctor. Finding more comfort as you age is possible, so long as you keep speaking up and asking for help.
