On this episode of the Sexology Podcast I am joined by Dr. Ari Tuckman to discuss his specialties and findings around his research. One main topic we are looking at is ADHD as it relates to sex and intimacy.
When evaluating the dynamics between a couple where one deals with ADHD, we need to look at how this person interacts in the relationship. We also look at sexual eagerness. Some with ADHD may have increased sexual interest. Having someone more sexually interested and attuned can be a real strength in a relationship. The problem is when one is really into it and one isn’t. It can become another source of dissatisfaction.
If you have ADHD, you would think medication should be helpful to focus during sex. Although this is just in theory. We can’t make a sweeping recommendation that this is true. For most people, medication actually doesn’t have a benefit during sex. Ultimately, it’s about balance and having the right expectations. Other contributing factors to disconnect could be a parent child dynamic being a total sex killer as well as ADHD going undiagnosed. ADHD is at its worst when it’s not diagnosed or when it’s diagnosed and not really managed.
